Executive Committee of the Board of Directors

The Executive Committee functions as the leadership of the Board of Directors. It is comprised of the corporate officers of VEMS and is chaired by the President. It remains in frequent contact with the Executive Director to ensure that operational and administrative goals are met. The Executive Committee is frequently consulted on hiring matters and provides evaluation and feedback to the Executive Director between monthly meetings of the Board of Directors.

 

Board of Directors

The VEMS Board of Directors meets monthly to approve strategic direction, make hiring and compensation decisions, approve budgets, provide financial and administrative governance, and provide for executive succession planning. The Board is comprised of one representative from each of the region’s five volunteer ambulance services, one appointed by each of the five municipal Chief Elected Officials, two from Griffin Hospital, one recommended by the Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Sponsor Hospital EMS Coordinator and the Executive Director.

Jerry Schwab 

 

Jerry Schwab, EMT-P - President

Jerry has served as President of VEMS since 2004.  He is also the Director of the Oxford Ambulance Association where he oversaw that organization’s staffing initiative and the construction of a new headquarters.  Jerry has served on the VEMS Board of Directors since 1999 and is a former member of CT’s EMS Advisory Board.  He is also a member of the Oxford Board of Education. 

Roy Tidmarsh 

 

Roy Tidmarsh - 1st Vice President

A former President of VEMS, Roy has served as Vice President since 2003.  He is a member and former officer of Ansonia Rescue Medical Services (ARMS).  He is also the former longtime Chairman of the City of Ansonia’s Tax Board.  Roy has served on the VEMS Board of Directors as the representative from ARMS for nearly 20 years.

 

 William Scollin


William Scollin - 2nd Vice President 

Bill is the former longtime Chief of Echo Hose Ambulance in Shelton.  He is currently Shelton’s Deputy Director of Emergency Management where he oversees state and federal grants and disaster response.  He has been a member of the VEMS Board of Directors for nearly 20 years and has served on the Executive Committee for most of that time. 

 Shannon McDaniel

 

Shannon McDaniel - Corporate Secretary

Shannon has served as the VEMS Secretary since 2005.  She is the Chairwoman of the Board of Directors at Seymour Ambulance.  She has served as an EMS professional in the Valley for nearly ten years and has served for four years on the VEMS Board of Directors.

 Madalene Taggart

 

Madalene Taggart - Treasurer

Madalene is in her first year as Treasurer of VEMS and has served on the Board of Directors since 2004.  She works as the Assistant Director of the Oxford Ambulance Association where she oversees the organization’s administration and was instrumental in the formation of the Oxford Ambulance Explorer Post.

VEMS News flash

Oxford man named VEMS Director

A Valley native has been named the new executive director of the region’s paramedic service.

Robert A. Pettinella’s appointment was announced Thursday during a meeting of Valley Emergency Medical Services (VEMS).

Pettinella, who lives in Oxford, replaces Jason Perillo.
